Description Of Styles
Whole Body Yin
Yoga as practiced in the West is almost exclusively Yang (active) or muscular in nature. The Yin style of Yoga which holds poses (asanas) for a longer period of time with the muscles relaxed stretches and stresses the more hidden connective tissue (such as ligaments, tendons, fascia, bones, etc.). Using the breath in the pose is important to calm the mind and to relax more into the posture. Yin Yoga is perfect for students who look for a deeper spiritual dimension of Yoga through a more passive, and gentle approach. WholeBodyYin is Katrin's signature class. In this class she will work the body (plus the mind) in all directions. The Yin sequence is designed as a flow, each pose is connected, sometimes through a Yang pose (as a transition). Recommended for all levels.
Restorative Yoga poses are designed to open the body in a very gentle way in order to relax the body & mind. The practiced sequence in this session will be fully supported by props such as blankets, blocks, yoga eggs, and bolsters. Restorative Yoga can be used as well therapeutically to aid conditions such as lower back pain, headaches, insomnia, and sinus congestion. It has a very meditative aspect. This healing practice of yoga is suitable for all ages and all levels of yoga. It is the perfect addition to a more active yoga practice or any other active activity (such as running, tennis, etc.) in your life.
Align & Relax
This class is inspired by the alignment method of B.K.S. Iyengar. You will find yourself working intensively on certain yoga poses and learning about the key alignment cues that help to get deeper into the pose. After the more active practice a relaxation (restorative yoga or yin yoga) will follow. Not recommended for beginners.
In this yoga practice that is inspired by the alignment method of B.K.S. Iyengar we will work on the alignment of classical yoga poses that are seated, standing and inverted poses. Often we will study them by taking them apart. Props such as blocks, blankets, yoga eggs, straps, sometimes the wall and the yoga wall will be used during class. This practice is deep and it is what yoga is all about, a practice that brings body & mind together. All levels are welcome. A one year yoga practice will be helpful.
Working on and with the yoga wall (through the usage of ropes/straps, pelvic slings, etc.) helps the student experience the various yoga poses more profoundly. It creates optimal body alignment in yoga poses. Using the wall equipment helps opening areas in the body that are for some students difficult to reach. The training on the wall is available for small groups (max. of 3 students) or for private sessions for all kind of student levels.
Alignment on a Chair
This class is all about exploring the proper alignment in selected yoga poses (standing, seated and sometimes inverted) with the usage of a yoga chair (a folding chair that has certain requirements for the practice that we will explain). This session is inspired by B.K.S. Iyengar alignment method. A two year yoga practice is required to sign up for this class.
